About Young TimeBank
Young TimeBank supports groups of young people (11-19 years old) in schools and colleges around the country to tackle the issues they care about, by involving them in creative, youth-led community projects.
Youth-led means that the young people involved make all the important decisions for their project, from identifying the most effective and relevant way to tackle their chosen issue, to the allocation of roles within the group. Young TimeBank provides trained facilitators, and all necessary resources and equipment to support and guide the young people to turn their ideas into reality.
Our approach has proven to maximise the skills and confidence young people gain from their participation in our projects. Taking part in a Young TimeBank project helps young people to improve their teamwork, negotiation, communication and project planning skills. Young TimeBank projects can help schools fulfil citizenship and other curriculum requirements, as well as meeting Every Child Matters outcomes, and contributing to the goals for strengthening communities as set out in Youth Matters and the Respect Agenda.
Projects created by pupils are showcased to their peers and their community to make sure that their voices are heard and they are recognised for their achievements. All groups who undertake a Young TimeBank project receive certificates of achievement and are given their own Project Page on our website as another opportunity to showcase their work. This also provides a good opportunity to encourage other young people to become involved in positive community action.
We currently deliver youth-led projects in three main ways:
- Volunteer Facilitator model
in London and Manchester - Peer Facilitation model
in Hertfordshire and Swindon - Taster Sessions
half-day or one-day - in all above areas
