About Young TimeBank

Peer Facilitation model

The peer facilitation model is an exciting new initiative for Young TimeBank that can be a valuable way of bringing a creative, youth led dimension to schools. Pupils from different age groups meet and work together on projects to make a difference as well as learning important social, leadership and communication skills.

Our Peer Facilitation model provides training and support for a group of Sixth Form or Year 10 or 11 pupils to design and deliver peer led projects with younger pupils in the same school. Young TimeBank will provide all the resources and equipment needed as well as ongoing support from Young TimeBank staff.

The model works in three stages that can be adapted to the individual needs of each school:

  • An initial training session in facilitation skills for the Sixth Form/Year 11 group delivered by Young TimeBank's Peer Facilitation Officer. This is a full day session that covers skills such as active listening, communication and team work. The facilitation techniques gained from this session will enable the older pupils to support the younger pupils in their project, making sure the group is effective and that everyone contributes to achieve their project aims.
  • A project planning session, in which the older pupils decide on how they will run their one-day project with the younger group. This session can either be a full day or half day session to suit the needs of the school. It is facilitated by the Peer Facilitation Officer who encourages the group to make decisions and plan the delivery of the one day project. In this session the group will choose which medium they want to use with the younger students and will choose between our project packages. These include running a campaign and creating art for an exhibition. This package will provide guidance and structure for the students on the day of delivery.
  • The older pupils then deliver the one day project working with younger pupils in the school. The younger pupils decide what issue they want to tackle and what roles and responsibilities they need to take on. They will then put their ideas into action, with support from the older pupils and resources from Young TimeBank. By the end of the day the group will have a completed project to showcase and will celebrate their achievements. All students receive certificates to recognize their efforts and get the opportunity to showcase their project on their own page of the Young TimeBank website. Full support will be provided by the Peer Facilitation Officer throughout the day of the project.
